braun pcs5 and... DL-103?

#1 Beitrag von thebeathunters » 22.04.2014, 01:22

seems like my old braun flame is coming back... 8)
i'm falling for a grey pcs5 and wonder if a DL103 cart can be adapted to its headshell or have no other choice than stick to the usual shure suspects...
thanks for feedback

realized that the pcs5 platter is magnetic, so no MC cart will play
what good MM cart you'd advise here?

...the usual suspects, Shure M44, Shure M55 or Shure V15, first version with the heavy metal casing, they are all second hand available for reasonable prices and the tone arm was developed for such cartridges, in my opinion they are perfect matches...

Hi thebeathunters,
I really don't know what you are talking about. The platter of the PCS5 is not magnetic, it is a zinc-high pressure die-cast.

:) you mean a dl-103 Mc cart could perform perfectly here?
a friend advised me an AT 150 MLX as possible upgrade for MM

I don't know the dl-103 MC, but a MC cartridge with the right compliance for the tone arm of the PCS5 should work just fine. Worth a test.

Hello,

the Denon DL-103 cartridge is designed for a heavy or middle-heavy tonearm weight effective mass and has a low compliance. In 1963 first it was a professional broadcast MC cartridge in Japan with a spherical stylus.

You must check it out in your PCS5 - I don't know the tonearm specs.

Best regards

Moin everybody,
some time ago I read something about using MC cardridges with the PCS 5.
As far as I remember the sub platter was suspected to make problems because of his magnetism.
Never tried it out myself.

Cheers
Thomas

Hi thebeathunters,
it is correct that the sub-platter is made out of steel and therefore magnetic, but you talked about the platter which is not. I doubt that the small sub-platter creates a problem in connection with a MC-cartridge. Why don't you check it out and report to all of us?

Hi,
I just got a new Shure M97xe and I tested the tone arm resonance on the PCS5 with the Shure ERA IV test record. With the damper down, I couldn't detect any vibration at 4,5,6,8,10 and 12 Hz; without the damper there was a strong visible vibration at 6Hz.
Maybe this is valuable information for some of you vinyl fans.

Wilhelm

sorry for doubling former message
here's a pic of the braun headshell  if someone could help me understand how to disassemble the inner metallic mounting board to install a new cart that would be wonderful!
