Tapedeck TG1000 - to buy or not?

#1 Beitrag von Harmony » 21.12.2013, 01:04

At the moment I can buy the Braun tapedeck TG1000 (chrome) for €100,-
From the outside it looks brand new and clean.
It seems to have only a little problem with a very slow 'Rücklauf' of the spool...

I want your advice:

-Is there a big risk in technical way?

-Is this deck still good to combine with the Regie 510 and the Quadro 1020 components?

-Gives it a good sound reproduction?

-What kind of tape do I need? New or second hand?

Can you recommend this Braun tapedeck?

*I also have an offering for the Revox A77 tapedeck for €200,- also in a new state and serviced...Is this a better one?
But I do much more like the design of the Braun :D

Thanks for you reaction,

Greetings, Joop

Hello Joop,

buy the TG 1000, which answer did you expect in a Braun board?

The TG 1000 is limited to max. 22 cm wheels which are hardly to get as new. You probably will be restricted on used tapes from Ebay or the smaller 18 cm wheels.

It's a 2-track (TG 1000/2) or 4-track (TG 1000/4)? A working rewind function is a must with 2-track machine.

The TG 1000 isn't just a "good" combination with regie 510, it's the optimum!

TG 1000's reproduction quality is excellent, if it is in good condition. TG 1000 spare parts are available (at least in Germany, at least 2nd hand). Revox enthusiasts emphasise a working service support for their machines, but do not expect bargain prices from Revox.

If your TG 1000 has to be shipped to you, the sender should take care of the headphone volume knob whose axis is sensitive to crack.

Good luck and Merry Christmas! Simon

Simon thanks for your advice! And all the best for 2014!

frankwalter1 says on this forum the following and that is interesting:

"Es ist schade, ich wohne in der Nähe von Karlsruhe, dass es hier kaum jemand gibt der diese Geräte seriös repariert. Hatte unlängst meine zwei TG 1000 bei einem mir schon lange bekannten schon etwas älteren Techniker, der sagte mir, nach 10 Tagen, oh oh da mache ich nix dran."

The same story in Rotterdam and the Netherlands.

Before I should buy a TG1000 I have looked for 3 taperecorder repairmen in the Netherlands who could service the TG1000 and sent them a mail.
Only one repairman gave a reaction and says that he can service the TG1000 for at least €150,- but it will be probably more... 8)
Is the TG 1000 it worth to service and what are reasable repaircosts? And who can do that the best?

Probably there are in Germany better alternatives but not in Karlsruh :(

Who can give some advice?

TG 1000 repair

#4 Beitrag von raimund54 » 26.12.2013, 19:46

Hi all,

to do all adjustments and settings according to the service manual of the TG 1000 it takes 2,5 to 3 hours. But it can be done in this timeframe only if you don´t have to replace parts besides the belts, the machine has to be in good condition, the repairman must be fast and he must be good technician. Now you can calculate the appr. costs of a repair.

If you cannot find a technician to do the repairs and adjustments of a TG 1000/1020, you can sent me a private mail and ask me (and Karlsruhe is not far away from Darmstadt).

Regards,

Raimund

Joop, you wrote:

I suppose (with all my german language skills) Frankwalter reports here from his experience with the repair of a high sophisticated turntable PS550, not from a TG1000, which is less difficult to maintenance.

Anyway, if you can't do it yourself and if you don't have a friendly assistance at Rotterdam, then:

- ask for a thoroughly overhauled TG1000 with 2 years of guarantee (~1000 €).

- or buy the "authentic" machine offered to you (100 €) and invest in external repairs, packings, speditions, handlings, assurances, other risks and costs (~900 €).

- Third way (most interesting, I think): spend some years to learn how to control and repair electronic and mechanical equipment by yourself.

"U hebt de keuze" (Thanks to Google Interpreter)!

Best regards, Simon

Simon,

This is what I read: "Hatte unlängst meine zwei TG 1000 bei einem mir schon lange bekannten schon etwas älteren Techniker, der sagte mir, nach 10 Tagen, oh oh da mache ich nix dran."

"- ask for a thoroughly overhauled TG1000 with 2 years of guarantee (~1000 €)."

"U hebt de keuze"...wer die Wahl hat, hat die Qual

A good advice Simon and I am even not a ' etwas älteren Techniker'

N.B.
I bought the Braun cassettedeck C 301M as recommended by you and it works fine :D
